The economy can make you do funny things at times. Like, for instance, when craving the tasty ika-yaki (grilled squid) from the favorite but expensive local Japanese restaurant, you might decide you can make it yourself. Like I did.
NEVER AGAIN.
Just because cleaning one squid looks pretty easy on youtube doesn't make it not fucking tedious when there's ten of the little bastards to a pound, pre-waste, and you're trying to make enough for a meal. Also, INK EVERYWHAR. And once you think you've made enough to fill up on, when you start actually cooking them, they fucking SHRINK on you. D:<
Thankfully, it tasted pretty good, and my shot-in-the-dark attempt at recreating the flavor at the restaurant with my marinade was pretty much spot-on: just equal parts of soy sauce, mirin, and vegetable oil, with some fresh grated ginger thrown in. This marinade is probably good on anything, so I'll be remembering that one.
